Keep reading all summer!

The summer reading lists for the Lyme-Old Lyme schools can be found on the Public Library's website.

This is the letter posted on the site, written by Candice LaConti, Reading/Language Arts Specialist, grades k-8; Jill Fayan, Library-Media Specialist at Center and Lyme Schools; and Shanon Pimentel, Library-Media Specialist at Lyme and Mile Creek Schools.

Dear Students and Parents:

It is with great pleasure that we present you with our Lyme-Old Lyme Summer 2012 Booklists. The books that appear on these lists were carefully selected for you by our school library-media specialists and assistants from Center, Lyme, Mile Creek, and Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School, as well by the town librarians from the Lyme Public Library and the Phoebe Griffin-Noyes Library.

We hope you enjoy perusing these lists to discover what, in our collective opinion, is the best out there in the world of children’s and young adult literature. Please take a moment to print the Reading Log as well and fill it in with the books you read. In September, we will collect these lists and those who hand them in will receive special recognition. They will also be eligible to win one of several prizes.

It is important to note that the books included on this list are not required reading; they are our tried and true recommendations for fun – and maybe a bit of learning too! Perhaps the best part of parents and children forming a habit of reading together is the lasting memories it creates…the good times you share poring over the pages of a book together will last a lifetime.

So please try one, two, or several of our summer picks and let us know what you think of them. We also encourage you to visit the town libraries to take part in their special activities. Our booklists are available at the libraries and online at www.lymepl.org and www.oldlyme.lioninc.org. Have a wonderful and safe summer and happy reading!
