Your Take: Do You Use Shore Line East?

Connecticut Department of Transportation announces new trains on the coast line

By Dirk Langeveld

On Friday, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced an expansion in Shore Line East service to go into effect on Saturday.

Under the new spring schedule, the line will run 30 weekday trains and 19 weekend and holiday trains. It adds new weekend train service to Old Saybrook as well as new weekday late morning service to Old Saybrook and New London and two special Friday trains.
The DOT also said in its announcement that additional weekend service to New London is anticipated in the future, but that it needs approval from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection since the rail line crosses Shaw's Cove in New London as well as the Niantic River and Connecticut River.

The Shore Line East Coalition has advocated for additional train service to New London, and Shore Line East currently offers a special train to the city during the annual Sailfest celebration.

How often do you use Shore Line East? Would you like to see additional service? Let us know in the comments.
