The East Lyme Board Of Education Needs "A Parent's Perspective"

I am very excited and honored to be running for "The East Lyme Board Of Education".

I currently serve and was appointed in Feb of 2013 and I am looking to serve a full term ending in 2017. I am married with 2 young children that attend our East Lyme School System. I have resided in EL for 13 yrs. and my husband is a life long resident. My background consists of 20 years of casework with the State of Connecticut where I have advocated and helped support/facilitate supports for Individuals and their families that live within our surrounding communities. Prior to serving on the Board of Education I had the pleasure of serving as the PTA president at Lillie B. Haynes. During my time as the PTA president I was recognized by the Cabe Organization for my volunteer work within our school community. This is where I learned how incredibly important the PTA is to having an exceptional school environment. Serving as the president & being part of the PTA is so much more than baking brownies:) The PTA independently facilitates, executes numerous fundraisers through out the year with the help of dedicated, committed parents, teachers, grandparents and community members so that funds can be raised so that fun day's, assemblies, smart board technology, playground equipment & extra enrichment can be offered to our children. Prior to LBH's, I was the Enrollment Facilitator at the Creative Playschool where my children attended pre-school. The Creative Playschool is one of very few Co-Operative options for pre-schools and not only did our children receive an outstanding educational stepping stone, it is where I learned that my role extended into my children's classrooms and how incredibly beneficial it was "To Be Part Of The Process".

I feel that I am the best candidate for this office because I bring many strong qualities. I am a forward thinker, progressive, organized and can work within a team process. I am an extremely strong advocate and active listener and I am compelled to help encourage our community members, parent's , teachers and children to use their voices so we can work collaboratively.

I am also a woman that leads with authenticity & vigor. I am committed to our community and support small community schools, strong community relationships, exceptional education and most specifically I will continue to act as a Liaison and advocate for our community and bring "A Parent's Perspective" to the East Lyme Board Of Education.
