Sarah Trowbridge Third in London Olympics Double Sculls Heat

Old Lyme Rowing Association member Sarah Trowbridge and teammate Margot Shumway raced early this morning at Eton Dorney.

Local Olympian Sarah Trowbridge placed third in the second heat of the women's double sculls races this morning in the London Olympics.

Trowbridge and her teammate, Margot Shumway, finished with a time of 6:55.25. Their time was not good enough to earn an automatic berth in the final, as only the top two boats from each heat get automatic spots.

Instead, Trowbridge and Shumway will race in the repechage round, where the top two finishers gain a spot in the final race.

The overall winner in this morning's double sculls races, which started at 5:20 a.m., (our time), was the British team, which finished 6:44.33 in the first heat.

The races are taking place at the Olympic rowing course in Eton Dorney, about 30 miles outside of London.

Trowbridge and her teammate, Shumway, will race again tomorrow. NBC will carry air today's races later this morning.

Trowbridge, 29, first began rowing in 2000 with and she's been on five senior national teams and has five medals from international racing. Shumway, of Westlake, Ohio, is also a member of a national racing team who made it to the 2008 Olympics.

I wondered that myself when I looked at it, then noticed that lots of our local farmers marketsRead More aren't on the map. When I dug a little deeper, I noticed that all the markets the state lists are "self-reported" in other words, markets have to let the state know and then they're added.

As a parent of 2 children that attend NCS, I do not think the elementary school is the best place toRead More relocate Coastal Connection to. I feel that beyond my concerns, my children may feel threatened or uncomfortable in a school with kids that are so much older than they are. It just doesn't seem like this would be the best decision for any of the children that would be affected by this change.
