With about a foot of snow forecast to start falling overnight, the Lyme-Old Lyme school district is joining districts throughout the state in closing school on Thursday, Feb. 13.
"All Lyme-Old Lyme Schools and School Offices will be closed on Thursday, February 13, 2013 due to weather," Ian Neviaser, superintendent of schools, announced on the district website.
Snow is expected to start around 3 a.m., and last for about 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
In addition to the school closure, East Lyme has declared a parking ban starting at 7 a.m. Thursday and halted garbage pickups:
Effective 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 through 12:00 noon Friday, February 14, 2014 no motor vehicle shall be parked on a public street or highway in the Town of East Lyme in order to facilitate snow and ice removal. Overnight parking is allowed in all Town parking lots during this snow event.
There will be no garbage pickup on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. Thursday's garbage route will be collected on Friday, Feb. 14.
