Republican Leaders from East Lyme and Old Lyme Like Romney's Choice

Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney picks Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate, local Republicans approve.

This morning's , a 7th-term congressman from Wisconsin and Chairman of the Federal House Budget Committee, to be his running mate in the November Presidential Election met with approval from local Republican leaders.

"Clearly the biggest problems facing our country are the extremely large federal deficit, the 8.3 percent unemployment rate and the lack of any progress on the part of the current administration to assist the private sector in creating jobs," said John A. Bysko, Old Lyme Chairman of the Republican Town Committee.

"Every Federal administration in the past, irrespective of its party, worked with businesses to improve the economy. This one has not and that is one of the root problems of the extremely tepid recovery we have seen," he added. "Ryan has a plan and that plan is to address the deficit and to create jobs here in the United States."

East Lyme Selectwoman Holly Cheeseman, chair of the East Lyme Republican Town Committee, agreed. Describing Ryan as both brilliant and articulate, Cheeseman said, "I think Paul Ryan is a great spokesman for the party."

"I think he brings a level of seriousness and conviction to the debate," Cheeseman said. "The country faces huge challenges, record and exploding debt, and uncontrolled spending. Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney actually have a plan to address problems the country faces and to restore prosperity."

"All of us have to balance our budgets in our personal households and the Federal Government must do the same," added Bysko. "I have said that we need to come up with a long term plan and even if it takes a generation ( I compare it to paying off a 30 year mortgage), as long as there is a plan, our children and grandchildren will be so much better off than the potential for bankruptcy and the devastation financially that that would bring.

"I feel that Paul Ryan is a good choice because of the skills he can bring to help balance the budget and to create jobs here in our country," Bysko said.

As a parent of 2 children that attend NCS, I do not think the elementary school is the best place toRead More relocate Coastal Connection to. I feel that beyond my concerns, my children may feel threatened or uncomfortable in a school with kids that are so much older than they are. It just doesn't seem like this would be the best decision for any of the children that would be affected by this change.
