Between 1 and 3 inches of snow accumulation is expected, beginning Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 8 a.m. through Sunday at 6 a.m. for our area. Snow showers are expected to begin with flurries that will become a steady snow later this afternoon. Although accumulations aren't expected to amount to more than half an inch during the day on Saturday, overnight could bring one to three inches of snow mixed with rain.

If you're planning to travel today, as of 4:43 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts that will be in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

Saturday's forecast calls for snowfall beginning mid to late Saturday morning with total accumulations between 4 and 8 inches. The heaviest and steadiest snowfall will occur late afternoon into the early evening before tapering off between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday. 10-15 mph winds can be expected with gusts up to 25 mph.

Wintry conditions may make driving difficult with limited visibilities of one quarter to one half mile at times. According to the NWS, anyone traveling in the next 24 to 36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify travel plans if necessary.
