Shooting In East Lyme Police Department Parking Lot

The incident is still under investigation but it appears to have been a suicide.

Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit is investigating a shooting that occurred yesterday at the East Lyme Police Department on Main Street in downtown Niantic.

The incident happened at around 3 p.m. on Thursday and reportedly involved an elderly man, believed to be an East Lyme resident, who parked his van in the Police Department parking lot.

Although there is no official report yet, sources close to the police department say it appears to have been self-inflicted gunshot wound in an apparent suicide. The identity of the man has not yet been released.

State Police Major Crimes is investigating, however, as the East Lyme Police Department is headed by Resident State Trooper Sgt. Wilfred Blanchette, who is a member of State Police Troop E.
