Old Lyme Police Make An Urn-est Effort To Find A Home For A Dearly Departed

A lot of people are dying to go to the beach this summer but this isn't usually how they arrive.

OLD LYME, CT -- A few weeks ago, a body washed up on Sound View Beach in Old Lyme.

To be more specific, it was an urn that came ashore in front of Lenny's at the Beach. Restaurant owner Lenny Corto found it and called Old Lyme Police Officer Thomas Heinssen, who came to pick it up. It's been at Old Lyme Police Department ever since.

Although a burial at sea is a possibility, most people scatter ashes not urns. Everyone's best guess is that it washed away from one of the summer cottages during Superstorm Sandy.

The inscription gave police a lead right off the bat. The name inscribed is Henry Grzyb, who was born on November 8, 1944, and died on June 3, 2009.

A quick search of the name, birth and death dates, suggests his last known address was New Britain. Heinssen has made an effort to track down possible relatives but, so far, no one has claimed the late Henry Grzyb.
