Car Fire in Old Lyme Last Night

A fire that started in the engine quickly engulfed the vehicle but it didn't take Old Lyme Fire Department long to put it out.

Fourth of July can be a busy time for firefighters but last night's vehicle fire had nothing to do with fireworks.

Old Lyme Fire Department was called at about 8:50 p.m. on July 3 when a vehicle burst into flames on Four Mile River Road in Old Lyme.

"The fire originated in the engine compartment and it's believed to be mechanical in nature," said Dave Roberge, Old Lyme Director of Emergency Management.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Roberge said, but no one was injured.

Thanks very much to Old Lyme Police Officer Thomas Heinssen, who provided the video!
