Niantic Poker Run Raises More Than $20,000 For Leukemia
The fourth annual fundraiser was great fun for boaters too.

The Connecticut Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in partnership with Harbor Hill Inn & Marina, Boats Incorporated and Port Niantic, Inc. held its 4th Annual Leukemia Cup Power Boat Poker Run on Saturday, July 27.
The Poker Run is a fun day on the water followed by a BBQ Party at Harbor Hill Inn & Marina with entertainment. Prizes are awarded for the best Poker Hand; first prize was a Nitro 50 scooter. At the party guests had an opportunity to bid on live auction items and participate in a chance auction with over 30 great prizes.

Since its inception in 2009 the Poker Run has raising almost $80,000. This year it raised over $20,000 which will go towards lifesaving research and patient services, bringing help and hope to patients and their families. The money raised came not only from boat registration, party tickets and auction items but also by participants who seeking donations from family, friends, co-workers and sponsorship from companies.
“With more than one million people in North American diagnosed with a blood cancer, The Leukemia Cup is an important fundraising event that gives participants an opportunity to do something enjoyable while making a critical difference in the lives of patients and their families,” said Jean Montano.
