World Book Night Giveaway

OLPGN Library and Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore Partner for WORLD BOOK NIGHT on April 26

Old Lyme, CT.  The Old Lyme-Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library and Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore will partner for WORLD BOOK NIGHT giveaway on April 26, 2014 at the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantry in Old Lyme. The Soup Kitchen and Pantry is located at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 2 Ferry Road, Old Lyme. “ We are pleased to partner with Literacy Volunteers to broaden outreach and benefit readers on a local level,” says Director Fiorelli.  World Book Night U.S. (WBN) is an ambitious campaign to give thousands of free, specially-printed paperbacks to light or non-readers. Volunteer book givers help promote reading by going into our communities and handing out free copies to those without means or access to a printed book.
   
Actress and comedian Amy Poehler has been named the honorary chairperson for this year's World Book Night literary giveaway. "I grew up loving books," Poehler, 42, who's best known for her roles on Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation, said in a statement. "In today's digital world, it's more important than ever to know how it feels to have a good book in your hands. I'm thrilled to be part of World Book Night. People who read are people who dream, and we connect through the stories we live and tell and read."
   
World Book Night takes place nationally  on April 23, 2014 –Shakespeare’s birthday– and is in its third year in the U.S. WBN reach includes all 50 states, Puerto Rico, USVI, and overseas military bases. The WBN picks are by a wide array of award-winning and bestselling adult and YA authors, as well as classics, books in Spanish, and books in Large Print.
