Local Review: Village Bake House

I love the sandwiches and baked goods at the Village Bake House located in Niantic, CT. Their breakfast sandwiches are the ultimate deal.

I love the sandwiches and baked goods at the Village Bake House located in Niantic, CT. Their breakfast sandwiches are the ultimate deal. For $3.99 you get a "freshly cracked and fried egg" on top of your choice of bread, a choice of meat, cheese, and an additional topping. And I'm telling you that thing is HUGE.  The bread isn't just cheap loaf bread or french bread, you get to pick from: a croissant, ciabatta roll, kaiser roll, or english muffin. The meats: bacon, sausage, or ham. The cheeses: cheddar, pepperjack, american, and havarti. The toppings: tomato, carmelized onion, and baby spinach. My pick of the morning was a ciabatta breakfast sandwich with fried egg, bacon, cheddar, and baby spinach. It was AMAZING. My husband and I both agree it is the perfect place to bring guests for a quick breakfast and decent coffee. It doesn't hurt that you can get some chocolate-drop peanut butter cookies or homemade hermits to-go either.

Everything is delicious at the Village Bake House. For lunch I like to order the Veggie Melt sandwich with hummus instead of ranch dressing. And I have yet to try them, but one of the most popular items are their fresh salads. They're huge!
I have not been to the Groton location yet, but the Niantic location does not have a bathroom. If you do need to find a bathroom nearby, there's a Dunkin Donuts and a movie theater around the corner from the shopping center. This is a casual cafe-style restaurant and food is ordered at the counter. The seating area is not large, so I wouldn't recommend having large parties dine-in the cafe. It's the perfect food to take for picnics though! Bring your sandwiches to the Hole-in-the-Wall Beach which is within walking distance from the restaurant. Another option is McCook Points Park (a park, beach, and playground all rolled into one), about a 3 minute drive away. There's also seasonal outdoor seating, but the view is of the parking lot/street.
