Record Lottery Ticket Sales Deliver $9.6 Million to Connecticut’s General Fund

Three tickets in Connecticut were winners but the really big money will go to one ticket in Arizona and one in Missouri.

A Press Release from Connecticut State Lottery

Lottery players everywhere were discussing what they would have done if they had won the $587.5 million Powerball® jackpot last night. In total, 148,555 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide, with prizes ranging from $4 to $2,000,000. And, thanks to strong ticket sales that topped out at more than $24 million, profits raised from the jackpot run made our state a $9.6 million winner.

That is because 100 percent of profits from the sale of Lottery tickets are delivered to the General Fund where they are in turn distributed to the various programs and services the fund supports. Included in that allocation are services that touch all of Connecticut’s citizens – healthcare, education, public safety, and more.

“In addition to funding education and public health services, lottery profits provide much needed monies for conservation, judicial services, property tax reimbursements to towns, hospitals, and more,” said Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the Connecticut Lottery.

The Powerball jackpot run began on October 6, 2012 and ended when two jackpot winning tickets were named; one from Arizona and one from Missouri, on November 28, 2012.

The winning Powerball numbers for November 28 were 5 – 16 – 22 – 23 – 29 and a Powerball of 6. In Connecticut, three lucky Powerball tickets matched the first five numbers drawn for a $1,000,000 win, but missed the Powerball number. Of the three, one ticket also had the Power Play activated for an extra $1, automatically doubling that prize to a cool $2,000,000.

Players have 180 days from the date of drawing to claim a winning ticket. Winning tickets for the November 28, 2012 Powerball drawing expire on May 27, 2013.

In fiscal year 2012, the Lottery delivered $310 million to the state’s General Fund. At the same time, players won a record $659.9 million in prize money.
