Connecticut Ranks Next to Last For Dog Ownership

A new report from the American Veterinary Medical Association found only 28.3 percent of Connecticut households are home to a dog.

Despite the number of four-legged tail-wagging friends you might see in your neighborhood, (not to mention at Lyme Town Hall, where First Selectman Ralph Eno's dog, Rosie, can reliably be found curled up under a desk and in East Lyme Town Hall, where First Selectman Paul Formica's boxer, Grace, has a bed in the office), Connecticut is not home to many dogs.

According to the Hartford Business Journal, a new report from the American Veterinary Medical Association ranks Connecticut 49th for pet ownership. The recently released U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook found that only 28.3 percent of Connecticut households own a dog.

Vermont ranked number one and the District of Columbia came in last.

I wondered that myself when I looked at it, then noticed that lots of our local farmers marketsRead More aren't on the map. When I dug a little deeper, I noticed that all the markets the state lists are "self-reported" in other words, markets have to let the state know and then they're added.

As a parent of 2 children that attend NCS, I do not think the elementary school is the best place toRead More relocate Coastal Connection to. I feel that beyond my concerns, my children may feel threatened or uncomfortable in a school with kids that are so much older than they are. It just doesn't seem like this would be the best decision for any of the children that would be affected by this change.
