It's a Wrap! Meals on Wheels in Old Lyme and Lyme

The Meals on Wheels "Share the Love" fundraising effort continues with a vehicle from Reynold's Subaru that is all dressed up with lots of places to go.

A Press Release from Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc.

Guilford’s Royal Printing Service has generously created and produced the “car wrap” that is on the Subaru car that delivers meals daily. Essex Savings Bank and Guilford Savings Bank quickly rose to the occasion when asked to help pay for the cost of the wrap.

These are three more businesses in our community supporting seniors this holiday season during the Subaru and Meals on Wheels of America national “Share the Love” campaign.

“We are just thrilled to be able to have the Subaru wrapped and ready to deliver Meals on Wheels (MOW). I want to thank these very generous supporters of MOW and our area seniors. We could not provide this very essential service without our community business partners! In our endeavor to win the $35,000 MOW grant, this will help tremendously.” said Paula Ferrara, Executive Director of the Estuary Council of Seniors.

The Meals on Wheels Program delivered nearly 60,000 nutritious meals to seniors in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Old Lyme, Lyme, Killingworth, Madison, Essex, Deep River, Clinton and Chester this past year.

Locally Reynolds Subaru of Lyme has partnered with the Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc., in helping to make this holiday season a bit special for seniors along the shoreline.  They have donated the use of one of their automobiles to be used throughout the six week campaign for meal delivery by members of their own family, staff and many civic groups.

The campaign continues through the new year with local Rotary Clubs, Old Saybrook & Westbrook’s Interact Clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Vista Volunteers and First Selectmen from all the shoreline towns paying visits to seniors as they deliver meals along with holiday cards and plants donated by area nurseries.

As one of the five Subaru “Share the Love” event charitable partners, the Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is awarding $200,000 in “Share the Love” grants to local Meals on Wheels programs that partner with Subaru dealerships in the fight to end senior hunger. The Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc. is eligible to win a MOWAA-Subaru “Share the Love” grant of up to $35,000 to help provide hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors in all ten towns it serves.

Hayden Reynolds is spearheading a “matching funds competition” and hopes that many other local businesses will join him. If you are interested in providing a tax deductible financial match or a partial match to the grant they hope will be awarded to The Estuary Council of Seniors, please contact Sandy at (860) 388-1611.
