Influenza Concerns Restrict Visitor Access At Lawrence & Memorial Hospital

Visitations at New London hospital and outpatient facilities limited due to increase in infections

Lawrence & Memorial Hospital is temporarily restricting patient visitations due to a "sharp rise" in influenza infections in New London County.

The hospital announced yesterday that precautionary measures will immediately go into effect at the hospital's main campus in New London as well as at outpatient facilities in the region, including Flanders Health Center in East Lyme.

Visitors will be limited to immediate family or designated caregivers. People with fever, cough, or other flu-like symptoms should not visit patients. Visitors are being limited to two at a time, and children under the age of 18 will not be allowed except in special circumstances or with permission from healthcare providers.

Anyone visiting the hospital should also use wash their hands or use available hand hygiene dispensers when entering or leaving the hospital facilities.

“Our focus is on patient safety,” Dr. Joseph Gadbaw, chairman of the department of medicine, said in a statement. “These restrictions are part of our infection prevention plan to prevent the spread of influenza at L&M.”

The restrictions will be reviewed based on the level of infections in the areas served by L&M.

I wondered that myself when I looked at it, then noticed that lots of our local farmers marketsRead More aren't on the map. When I dug a little deeper, I noticed that all the markets the state lists are "self-reported" in other words, markets have to let the state know and then they're added.

As a parent of 2 children that attend NCS, I do not think the elementary school is the best place toRead More relocate Coastal Connection to. I feel that beyond my concerns, my children may feel threatened or uncomfortable in a school with kids that are so much older than they are. It just doesn't seem like this would be the best decision for any of the children that would be affected by this change.
