Three Rivers Middle College High School to Open in Norwich

Exciting Possibilities For Future College Graduates

NORWICH, CT — Three Rivers Community College (TRCC) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Three Rivers Middle College High School at our Norwich campus this fall. In a process which began in April 2008, LEARN, the region's Regional Education Service Center, has been working with TRCC to finalize plans on opening the Middle College High School in August 2012.

The Middle College Magnet High School will serve 11th and 12th grade high school students who are interested in pursuing studies in the fields of engineering technology, business and finance, and hospitality management.  A dual enrollment high school the students will complete high school graduation requirements while having the opportunity to take college classes.  The fields of study were selected as a means of responding this region’s workforce needs.  The programs enjoy a stellar reputation by businesses in this region and beyond.  The College has transfer agreements with many four year institutions. Thirty high school juniors will be accepted into the first class.

The mission of the Three Rivers Middle College High School is to provide students with a comprehensive college experience that will include a strong, focused academic curriculum, and character development as well as active
participation in community service. Three Rivers Community College provides a supportive learning environment where high academic achievement in science,
math, business, finance and engineering technology is promoted and pursued by students who are actively investing in their education. To be introduced to TRCC,
its resources and culturally diverse population will be invaluable for the students of the Middle College. Important career preparation activities and essential life skills will also be part of the curriculum to ensure a successful long-term transition to employment, and lifelong learning.

Three Rivers Middle College High School will focus on students in the last two years of their secondary education when they are prepared to experience and explore specific academic fields of interest. Students will be chosen by a lottery system and must have completed the requisite
credits needed to enter their junior year, including passing the CAPT test. They will enter the Middle College High School with the desire to participate in the college environment and complete the required high school courses while on the TRCC campus.

Please watch for additional information to come including dates for open houses, the first of which is scheduled to take place on July 23, 2012 on the Three Rivers Community College campus.

I wondered that myself when I looked at it, then noticed that lots of our local farmers marketsRead More aren't on the map. When I dug a little deeper, I noticed that all the markets the state lists are "self-reported" in other words, markets have to let the state know and then they're added.

As a parent of 2 children that attend NCS, I do not think the elementary school is the best place toRead More relocate Coastal Connection to. I feel that beyond my concerns, my children may feel threatened or uncomfortable in a school with kids that are so much older than they are. It just doesn't seem like this would be the best decision for any of the children that would be affected by this change.
