LEARN Announces Teacher of the Year

Old Lyme, CT – LEARN
Regional Educational Service Center hosted a reception on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, to honor Teachers of The Year in the southeastern Connecticut region.  The Connecticut Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952. Sponsored by the Connecticut State Department of Education, Division of Teaching and Learning Programs and Services and ING, it begins with the selection of a Teacher of the Year in each district and continues at the national level, where the CT Teacher of the Year becomes eligible for national honors.

The LEARN nominees for Teachers of The Year are:  Kelly Falvey – Connecticut River Academy, Lizabeth Quinones – Regional Multicultural Magnet School, Kristen Anderson – The Friendship School, Stephanie Heaton – Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School, Eric Litvinoff - Marine Science Magnet High School and Jennifer Colon of the LEARN Special Education Department.

Jennifer Colon was selected as The LEARN Teacher of the Year and will represent the agency at the state level on November 15th in Hartford. Congratulations to these recipients and good luck Jennifer as you represent LEARN!

As a parent of 2 children that attend NCS, I do not think the elementary school is the best place toRead More relocate Coastal Connection to. I feel that beyond my concerns, my children may feel threatened or uncomfortable in a school with kids that are so much older than they are. It just doesn't seem like this would be the best decision for any of the children that would be affected by this change.
