The quiz was one of the activities conducted by the “Student Voices” club at the middle school under the guidance of Patty Cournoyer.  Students also presented a Daily Drug Fact during announcements and distributed colorful “Drug Free 24/7” pencils to all of their classmates.

At the High School, the freshman (Class of 2016) had the highest average score on the Drug Facts IQ Challenge Quiz. They won $100 for their class fund from Lyme-Old Lyme’s CASFY Coalition.

A team of students planned Drug Facts Week activities: sophomores Abigail and Hugh Cipparone, Veronica Rollins, Kathleen Stedman and junior Adi Dahlke. Adi also designed a Drug Facts banner that was displayed in the school’s Commons area.

The students chose Drug Facts to be read during daily announcements and all students received the information in a daily email. All worked together with Karen Fischer, Prevention Coordinator at LYSB who organizes programs for Lyme/Old Lyme’s CASFY Coalition.

The Mission of CASFY is to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug use among youth by collaborating with the community to raise awareness, modify social norms, educate youth and adults, initiate policy change and promote healthy activities.

By the way, the answer to the question about the percentage of people who become addicted to marijuana if they smoke every day is C: 25-50%.

You can take the quiz and learn more at http://drugfactsweek.drugabuse.gov/iqchallenge. It is not an easy quiz and some may be surprised at a few of the answers.

Save The Date!

There will be a Community Forum on Marijuana on March 20, at 7 p.m. at Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School.  Guest speaker Dr. Alicia Farrell, who specializes in treating substance abusing youth, will speak on what we know about marijuana and how it affects youth who use it.
